John Mueller, M.D.
John Mueller, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, shoulder & elbow surgery. He provides both surgical and non-surgical treatments for shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee pain, offering comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s needs. Dr. Mueller performs both arthroscopic and open surgery, including anatomic and reverse total shoulder replacements. He utilizes the latest technologies, including custom patient guides, augmented reality, and computer-assisted navigation for shoulder replacements. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and surgical technique videos in the field of sports medicine and orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Mueller attended The University of Notre Dame for his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences. He graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He then obtained his medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons.
Dr. Mueller completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. There, he assisted with the New York Yankees and provided physician team coverage for Columbia University, Manhattan College, Fordham University, Iona University, and several local high schools. He received the Ira Wolfe award for excellence in sports medicine in back-to-back years.
Dr. Mueller completed a fellowship in sports medicine/shoulder & elbow surgery at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC, where he served as a team physician for the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte FC, the Charlotte Knights, and West Charlotte high school.
In his free time, Dr. Mueller enjoys skiing, hiking, biking, pickleball, spending time with his wife and tiny dog, and cheering for all Notre Dame sports.
